Can patients with diabetes and hypertension drink salt soda?
Disease description:
I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension, and I would like to drink salt soda. Is it okay for someone with diabetes and hypertension to drink salt soda?
Patients with diabetes and hypertension are not advised to drink saline soda water, mainly due to the following reasons:
1. Increased sodium intake: Saline soda water contains high levels of sodium. A high-sodium diet is one of the important risk factors for hypertension. For diabetic patients who already suffer from hypertension, excessive sodium intake can further aggravate water and sodium retention, elevate blood pressure, increase the burden on organs such as the heart and kidneys, and hinder the control of their condition.
2. Blood glucose fluctuations: Some types of saline soda water may contain no or only small amounts of sugar, but diabetic patients should still choose cautiously. Even if the sugar content in saline soda water is low, consuming other high-sugar foods or beverages simultaneously may still lead to fluctuations in blood glucose levels.
3. Long-term health effects: Long-term excessive consumption of saline soda water can not only raise blood pressure but also potentially lead to health problems such as obesity and osteoporosis. For diabetic patients, obesity is one of the adverse factors affecting glycemic control, while osteoporosis may increase the risk of fractures.
