What are the symptoms of internal hemorrhoids?
Disease description:
I have noticed blood during bowel movements these past couple of days, and I also have anal itching. Could this be internal hemorrhoids? I would like to ask the doctor, what are the symptoms of internal hemorrhoids?
Internal hemorrhoids are formed due to the dilation of the venous plexus in the lower rectum and are typically located inside the anus, without direct contact with the external environment. The main symptoms include:
1. Rectal bleeding: The most common symptom is bright red blood appearing during bowel movements, usually found on the surface of stool or dripping after defecation, caused by stool rubbing against the hemorrhoid.
2. Anal discomfort: Patients may feel a foreign body sensation in the anus, accompanied by restlessness, especially noticeable after prolapse of the hemorrhoid.
3. Itching: Internal hemorrhoids may cause itching or inflammation of the skin around the anus.
4. Pain during bowel movements: Although internal hemorrhoids are usually painless, severe pain may occur if thrombosis develops or the hemorrhoid becomes strangulated.
5. Prolapse of hemorrhoids: In some cases, especially when hemorrhoids are significantly enlarged, they may protrude from the anus during bowel movements and need to be manually pushed back.
6. Constipation or diarrhea: These conditions may worsen hemorrhoid symptoms as they increase pressure in the anal region.
7. Mild swelling: Internal hemorrhoids may cause slight swelling in the rectal area, although it is usually less noticeable than with external hemorrhoids.
If the above symptoms occur, especially persistent bleeding, prompt medical attention is advised. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent worsening symptoms and avoid potential complications such as anemia or hemorrhoid necrosis. At home, maintaining good anal hygiene, eating a fiber-rich diet, drinking plenty of water, avoiding prolonged sitting and straining during bowel movements can help alleviate symptoms and prevent the development of internal hemorrhoids.
