Disease description:

My blood sugar level was recently found to be very high, reaching 13 mmol/L when fasting. I'm wondering if I can drink chicken soup, but I'm concerned that it might be too oily to consume. May I ask if it's advisable for someone with diabetes and a blood glucose level of 13 mmol/L to drink chicken soup?

When a diabetic patient's blood glucose level reaches 13 mmol/L, chicken soup should be avoided if blood glucose control is poor or if serum uric acid levels are high. If blood glucose is relatively stable and serum uric acid levels are normal, chicken soup may be consumed in moderation. 1. Blood glucose control: If this is a fasting blood glucose value, the blood glucose level is significantly elevated, indicating inadequate glycemic control. In this situation, it is recommended to consume little or no chicken soup, as dietary intake needs to be strictly managed during hyperglycemia to prevent further increases in blood sugar. If this is a postprandial blood glucose reading, although still elevated, it may be somewhat better compared to fasting glucose levels; however, attention to dietary adjustments is still necessary. 2. Serum uric acid levels: Chicken soup is rich in purine compounds, which can potentially raise serum uric acid levels and increase the risk of gouty arthritis. Therefore, if a patient's serum uric acid level is already above the normal range or if there is a history of gout, chicken soup should not be consumed.
