Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
Yin deficiency with hyperactivity of fire may lead to chloasma. Chloasma typically presents as light brown patches on the face, particularly on the forehead, around the eyes, beside the nose, or on the cheeks. These patches are caused by pigment deposition and are closely related to pathological conditions in TCM such as liver-kidney Yin deficiency and Yin deficiency with hyperactivity of fire. When Yin deficiency with hyperactivity of fire occurs, the body's Yin is insufficient and empty-heat flares up, which may disrupt the normal circulation of Qi and blood and cause pigment deposition, thus forming chloasma on the skin. For chloasma caused by Yin deficiency with hyperactivity of fire, TCM commonly employs methods that regulate the body's Yin-Yang balance and improve Qi and blood circulation, such as taking Chinese herbal formulas like Liu Wei Di Huang Wan or Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan internally, or applying fresh aloe vera leaves externally. Meanwhile, dietary regulation and lifestyle adjustments are also important supportive measures. It is recommended to consume more Yin-nourishing and moisture-rich foods such as tremella fungus, lily bulbs, and wolfberries. Additionally, maintaining sufficient sleep, regular作息, avoiding excessive fatigue, and reducing mental stress are advised.
