How should infant heat rash be managed?
Disease description:
Recently, my baby has developed small bumps on the skin, and the doctor said it's heat rash. How should I manage heat rash in infants?
Heat rash (miliaria) is a common skin problem in children during summer, primarily caused by blocked sweat glands due to excessive sweating in hot and humid environments. When managing heat rash in children, it is important to keep the indoor environment cool and well-ventilated, appropriately lower room temperature, and reduce the child's perspiration. Maintain clean and dry skin by bathing frequently, but avoid using strongly alkaline soaps which may irritate the skin. After bathing, gently apply a thin layer of talcum powder or an appropriate amount of calamine lotion, which helps absorb sweat, relieve itching, and promote drying. Additionally, choose loose-fitting, breathable, sweat-absorbing cotton clothing, and avoid overdressing or tight garments, which may worsen the rash. Regarding diet, offer children适量 (an appropriate amount of) mung bean soup, watermelon juice, or other cooling beverages to help reduce internal body heat. If the rash is severe or accompanied by signs of infection, seek medical attention promptly and follow the doctor's instructions for treatment.
