Is it advisable to eat garlic for high blood sugar and elevated uric acid levels?
Disease description:
I recently went to the hospital for a checkup and found that my blood sugar and uric acid levels are high. I really enjoy eating garlic, but I'm wondering whether it's okay to eat it frequently. Could you please tell me if consuming garlic is advisable when having high blood sugar and elevated uric acid levels?
Patients with high blood sugar and elevated uric acid levels can consume garlic, but should do so in moderation. For patients with high blood sugar, garlic is rich in nutrients and offers antioxidant, lipid-lowering, anticoagulant, anti-infective, and immune-boosting properties. Moderate consumption can help maintain stable blood glucose levels. Garlic is relatively spicy and slightly irritating, so it is not recommended to eat on an empty stomach. However, it can be consumed as a seasoning along with other foods.
For patients with elevated uric acid levels, garlic is considered a low-purine food, containing approximately 38.2 mg of purines per 100 grams. Moderate consumption will not cause an increase in uric acid levels. Therefore, individuals with high uric acid can safely consume garlic, although they should still control total intake to avoid excessive consumption.
