Causes of Kidney Pain
Disease description:
My friend is a 22-year-old female. She has recently been experiencing severe kidney pain that is difficult to tolerate. Doctor, what are the possible causes of kidney pain?

Kidney pain may be caused by various factors, including but not limited to the following:
1. **Kidney stones**: When stones move and pass through the ureters, they can cause severe, sharp, and intermittent pain, usually in the flank or lower abdomen.
2. **Inflammatory conditions**: Such as pyelonephritis and glomerulonephritis. These diseases may impair kidney function, cause swelling of kidney tissues, and result in pain.
3. **Kidney failure**: When the kidneys are unable to properly filter waste products, it may lead to flank discomfort.
4. **Kidney cysts**: Non-cancerous fluid-filled cysts can sometimes cause mild pain.
5. **Renal vascular diseases**: Such as renal artery stenosis, which may reduce blood flow to the kidneys and cause pain.
6. **Muscle strain or sprain**: Not related to kidney problems, but lumbar muscle strain can also cause back pain.
7. **Kidney cancer**: Although less common, tumor growth may cause pain.
If the pain persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms (such as fever or changes in urine color), prompt medical attention is advised.
