How to treat swollen eyes after being bitten by mosquitoes or insects
Disease description:
I am 16 years old. Recently, with the hot weather, mosquitoes have increased, and my eyes were bitten by insects, followed by symptoms of redness, swelling, and itching. I would like to know how to treat eye swelling caused by insect bites.

After being bitten by mosquitoes or insects and experiencing swelling around the eyes, the following measures can be taken for treatment:
1. **Cold compress**: Wrap an ice pack or a towel soaked in cold water in a towel and apply it to the swollen area. This helps constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling and pain. Each cold compress should last 10–15 minutes to avoid frostbite from prolonged application.
2. **Cleaning and care**: Wash the affected area with mild soap and water or normal saline to keep the skin clean and prevent infection.
3. **Topical medications**: Under a doctor's guidance, apply anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory eye ointments or eye drops, such as tobramycin dexamethasone ointment or flumetholon eye drops. These medications can help relieve symptoms such as redness, swelling, and itching.
4. **Oral medications**: If symptoms are severe—for example, significant swelling or unbearable pain—oral antihistamines such as loratadine or cetirizine may be taken under a doctor's supervision to reduce the allergic reaction.
5. **Avoid scratching**: Advise the patient not to scratch the bitten area to prevent worsening symptoms or causing infection.
