What does it mean when white blood cell count is high?
Disease description:
When I went for a medical checkup, the doctor told me that my white blood cell count was high and that I needed some regulation. I would like to ask the doctor, what does it mean to have a high white blood cell count?

Elevated white blood cell count, or leukocytosis, may be caused by various factors:
1. Physiological causes: such as strenuous exercise, overeating, bathing, cold weather, or high temperatures. These conditions may cause increased blood flow, leading to a temporary rise in white blood cell count.
2. Infection: particularly acute bacterial infections, which can stimulate the body to produce chemotactic factors and interleukins that prompt the bone marrow to release large numbers of neutrophils, significantly increasing the white blood cell count.
3. Tissue damage: severe trauma, major surgery, or poisoning can also cause an increase in white blood cells to respond to tissue injury and repair.
4. Malignant tumors: certain cancers such as gastric cancer and liver cancer, as well as hematologic disorders like leukemia, may cause abnormal bone marrow proliferation, leading to elevated white blood cell counts.
