How to treat heat rash
Disease description:
I have recently developed a lot of heat rash on my body, and the itching is very uncomfortable. How should heat rash be treated?
To treat heat rash, the following measures can be taken:
1. Improve the environment: Keep indoor areas cool and well-ventilated to reduce sweating, thus decreasing the occurrence and severity of heat rash.
2. Maintain cleanliness and dryness: Bathe frequently, choose gentle cleansers suitable for sensitive skin, and keep the skin clean and dry to prevent sweat from remaining on the skin for prolonged periods.
3. Topical medications: Under a doctor's guidance, apply calamine lotion,痱子 powder (powder for heat rash), or similar medications to help astringe, relieve itching, and reduce inflammation. If itching is significant, use a cooling antipruritic lotion; if secondary infection occurs, apply antibiotic ointments.
4. Oral medications: If the symptoms of heat rash are severe and itching is unbearable, oral antihistamines such as cetirizine or loratadine may be taken. If an infection is severe, oral antibiotics are required.
5. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment: TCM also offers certain therapeutic effects for heat rash, though treatment must be based on syndrome differentiation. For example, for the syndrome of toxic transformation due to summerheat-dampness, Honeysuckle Decoction (金银花汤) with modifications may be used, while for the syndrome of blocked summerheat, Clearing Summerheat Decoction (清暑汤) with modifications may be administered.
