Can I wash prickly heat with cold water?
Disease description:
Recently, I've been experiencing skin itching, and my doctor said it's heat rash. Can I wash the affected area with cold water?
There are differing opinions on whether cold water can be used to wash heat rash. Washing with cold water may relieve skin itching and pain, constrict pores, reduce the chance of bacterial infection, and help lower skin temperature, thereby reducing inflammation and swelling.
However, some believe that wiping or bathing with cold water may irritate the skin, causing sudden constriction of capillaries and immediate blockage of sweat pores, which could worsen symptoms of heat rash. This is primarily because heat rash typically results from poor evaporation of sweat and blocked sweat glands, and cold water may further hinder the discharge of sweat.
