How is cirrhosis of the liver treated?
When I went for a liver examination, the doctor told me I have cirrhosis. I don't really know what to do about it myself. I would like to ask the doctor: how is cirrhosis treated?

Cirrhosis, medically termed as liver cirrhosis, results from long-term chronic liver disease leading to structural damage and fibrosis of the liver. The main goals in treating cirrhosis are controlling the underlying cause, halting disease progression, preventing complications, and improving quality of life. Treatment involves eliminating the causative factors, pharmacotherapy, nutritional support, psychological management, and dietary adjustments.
Specifically, targeted therapies should be implemented according to the causes of cirrhosis (e.g., hepatitis B, hepatitis C, alcohol consumption), such as antiviral therapy and alcohol abstinence. Meanwhile, hepatoprotective agents and anti-fibrotic medications may be used to improve liver function. Regarding nutrition, it is important to ensure a balanced intake and expenditure of nutrients. In addition, maintaining a positive mindset and healthy eating habits also contribute to effective treatment.
Patients should attend regular follow-up appointments, adhere to medical advice, and seek immediate medical attention whenever symptoms change.
