Cirrhosis requires antiviral treatment, which can effectively control the virus and suppress it to the lowest possible level. If hepatitis C virus can be maintained at undetectable levels, the liver will not suffer extensive damage to hepatocytes caused by the virus. For cases where drug therapy is not feasible, hypersplenism can be treated with splenectomy, portal-systemic shunt surgery, or splenic embolization.
