Dr. Yang Ziqi

Globulin is a type of protein in the blood, mainly produced by the liver, including immunoglobulins (antibodies) and other functional proteins. Low globulin levels, medically known as hypogammaglobulinemia, may be caused by the following reasons:

1. Liver disease: Conditions such as chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, or liver cancer can affect the liver's ability to synthesize proteins, including globulins.

2. Immune system disorders: Certain autoimmune diseases such as lupus or immunodeficiency disorders may lead to reduced production of immunoglobulins.

3. Malnutrition: Insufficient protein intake, especially long-term malnutrition or impaired digestion and absorption, can cause a decrease in globulin levels.

4. Nephrotic syndrome: Kidney diseases may result in the loss of proteins, including globulins, through urine.

If low globulin levels persist or symptoms develop, prompt medical attention is recommended.
