Validity period of hepatitis B vaccine
I know that children receive the hepatitis B vaccine when they get their vaccinations. I'm very curious to know how long the protection from the hepatitis B vaccine lasts.
The hepatitis B vaccine typically consists of three doses and, once completed, provides long-term protection for most people. For newborns and children, immunity usually lasts a lifetime after completing the full series. The vaccine is also highly effective in adults, although individual variations exist, and some individuals may require a booster dose.
Vaccine-induced immunity remains effective for many years after vaccination, with nearly 90% to 95% of vaccinated individuals developing adequate immune responses. However, over time, some adults may experience a decline in immunity, especially those in high-risk groups such as healthcare workers or individuals with weakened immune systems.
To confirm immune status, a blood test can be performed to check the level of hepatitis B surface antibodies (HBsAb). If antibody levels have decreased, a healthcare provider may recommend a booster dose to maintain immunity.
