Peeling skin on the hands and feet may be caused by several factors: 1. Fungal infection: Fungal infections in the hands and feet, such as hand癣 (tinea manuum) or athlete's foot (tinea pedis), may lead to peeling skin. 2. Eczema: Eczema affecting the hands and feet also may cause peeling skin. 3. Deficiency of nutrients: If one's diet is selective or unbalanced, leading to insufficient intake of nutrients such as vitamin A and vitamin B, a deficiency of these nutrients in the body may result in peeling skin on the hands and feet. 4. Dyshidrotic eczema (dyshidrosis): Dyshidrotic eczema is caused by excessive sweating, which leads to maceration of the stratum corneum (outer layer of skin) and subsequent skin damage and peeling. The exact cause is unknown, but it is commonly associated with hereditary, environmental, and disease-related factors. 5. Contact with corrosive substances: Contact with corrosive materials such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, or lime on the hands and feet may also cause peeling skin. 6. Xerotic eczema (asteatotic eczema): Xerotic eczema can cause dryness of the skin on the hands and feet, which may lead to peeling. 7. Keratolysis exfoliativa (exfoliative keratolysis): This condition typically occurs due to sweating or prolonged moisture exposure of the hands and feet, causing redness and gradual peeling starting from the center of the affected skin areas. In severe cases, it may even lead to complete desquamation of the epidermis of the entire palms or soles.
