Side effects of vitamin B6
Due to health reasons, my doctor advised me to supplement with vitamin B6 but also recommended against excessive intake. I would like to ask the doctor: what are the side effects of vitamin B6?
Vitamin B6 is one of the B-complex vitamins and participates in various biochemical reactions in the body. However, excessive use may lead to the following side effects:
1. Nerve damage: Long-term, high-dose intake of vitamin B6 (more than 200 mg daily), especially over several months, may cause peripheral neuropathy, characterized by numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness in the hands and feet.
2. Frequent urination and changes in urine color: High doses may cause urine discoloration, appearing darker yellow.
3. Skin rash: Some individuals may be allergic to vitamin B6, resulting in skin redness, itching, or rash.
4. Gastrointestinal discomfort: Excessive intake may cause nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, or diarrhea.
Supplementation with vitamin B6 should follow medical advice; excessive self-administration is not recommended.
