Can common warts heal on their own?
Disease description:
A few days ago, I noticed several warts appearing on my skin. After visiting the hospital, the doctor diagnosed them as common warts and said they do not require treatment and can resolve spontaneously. Can common warts indeed heal on their own?
Common warts are a benign proliferative disease of the skin and mucous membranes caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), and they have a certain tendency to resolve spontaneously. In most patients (approximately 65% to 90%), common warts may regress naturally within 2 to 5 years after onset. The spontaneous resolution process may be accompanied by inflammatory reactions around the warts, such as redness, swelling, itching, and even the appearance of new small warts. These phenomena indicate that the warts are entering a self-healing phase, and patients need not be overly concerned.
However, not all common warts will resolve on their own. For warts that cause significant pain, affect appearance, or spread extensively, timely medical consultation and professional treatment are recommended. Treatment options include physical therapies (such as cryotherapy, laser therapy, electrocautery), medication (such as salicylic acid, retinoic acid), and surgical intervention. Specific treatment plans should be determined by a physician based on the individual patient's condition.
