Why is urine protein high during pregnancy?
Disease description:
Today during my prenatal checkup, I was found to have high levels of protein in my urine. The doctor said I need to be especially cautious. May I ask what causes high urine protein during pregnancy?
Elevated urinary protein during pregnancy may be caused by various factors, mainly including the following:
1. Physiological factors: Increased blood flow and elevated glomerular filtration rate in pregnant women may lead to physiological proteinuria during pregnancy. In addition, changes in diet, such as excessive intake of high-protein foods that the body cannot fully digest, may also be excreted through urine, causing elevated urinary protein levels.
2. Specimen contamination: If the urine sample is contaminated by secretions during collection, it may also lead to falsely high urinary protein test results.
3. Disease-related factors: Such as urinary tract infections, gestational hypertension, and nephrotic syndrome. During a urinary tract infection, inflammatory stimulation may damage the glomerular basement membrane, increasing permeability and leading to excessive protein leakage. Gestational hypertension may be accompanied by impaired kidney function, resulting in protein loss in urine. Nephrotic syndrome can also present with elevated urinary protein and mildly increased blood pressure.
4. Other factors: For example, prolonged exposure to high-temperature environments, excessive sweating without timely hydration, may lead to concentrated urine and increased protein content.
It is recommended to seek timely medical attention and follow medical advice for further examination and treatment.
