Disease description:

I've been pregnant for some time now, and in a few days I have to undergo a D-dimer test. I'm worried something might be found, so I'd like to ask what is the normal reference range for D-dimer?

The normal reference range for D-dimer is generally less than 0.5 mg/L. However, the exact range may vary depending on the testing method, equipment, and reagents used. Some hospitals or laboratories may consider less than 0.3 mg/L as the normal range. D-dimer is an important indicator in coagulation function testing and is a degradation product of fibrinogen, mainly reflecting fibrinolytic function. An elevated D-dimer level may indicate the presence of a hypercoagulable state or secondary fibrinolysis hyperactivity, commonly seen in thrombotic diseases such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Therefore, when the D-dimer level exceeds the normal reference range, prompt medical consultation is advised, and a clinical physician should make a comprehensive evaluation based on other test results and implement appropriate treatment measures. The specific normal reference range should be based on the report provided by the testing laboratory or hospital where the test was conducted.
