My period is a few days late, and I'm worried about an unintended pregnancy. I'd like to ask, if I use a pregnancy test stick, how many days will it take to get a result?

Pregnancy test sticks are typically usable one to two days after the expected start of the menstrual cycle, when the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the urine is high enough to be detected by most high-quality pregnancy test sticks. hCG is a hormone secreted by embryonic tissue early in pregnancy, and its concentration begins to rise approximately 7 to 10 days after implantation of the fertilized egg. If menstrual cycles are irregular or if an earlier result is desired, testing can be performed on the first day of the missed period or shortly thereafter. Some sensitive pregnancy tests can even provide preliminary results a few days before the expected menstrual period, approximately 6 to 7 days after the estimated ovulation. However, for the most accurate result, it is recommended to use a pregnancy test stick around one week after the missed period, using the first morning urine, as this is when the concentration of hCG in the urine is highest. If the result is unclear or uncertain, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider or repeat the test.
