What to do if allergic to tetanus
Disease description:
I am 23 years old. Recently I got injured while working and received a tetanus shot, but tonight my body feels a bit itchy, as if I'm having an allergic reaction. I would like to know what to do if I'm allergic to the tetanus vaccine?

The management of tetanus allergy mainly includes the following methods:
1. Desensitization therapy: If the allergic reaction is mild, desensitization therapy may be used. This involves administering tetanus antitoxin in multiple small doses with intervals, observing the patient's response after each injection until the full dose is completed. This method must be conducted under a physician's guidance.
2. Medication substitution: If the allergic symptoms are severe, treatment can be switched to tetanus immune globulin. Tetanus immune globulin does not require skin testing and can be directly administered into the body with a lower risk of allergic reaction.
3. Physical therapy: For localized allergic symptoms such as redness, swelling, and itching, physical treatments such as cold compresses may be used to relieve discomfort.
4. Pharmacological treatment: Depending on the severity of the allergic reaction, physicians may prescribe antihistamines or other anti-allergic medications. For patients experiencing severe allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock, immediate emergency treatment is required, including administration of epinephrine.
