Correct Usage and Timing for Postpartum Abdominal Binders After Vaginal Delivery
After a smooth delivery, the nurse brought me a postpartum abdominal binder. I would like to ask about the correct method and timing for using the abdominal binder.
How to use a postpartum abdominal binder after vaginal delivery:
When using, the mother should lie flat or maintain a good posture, wrap the abdominal binder around the lower abdomen, ensuring it is tighter at the bottom and looser at the top, and properly secured. The specific steps are as follows: push the abdominal muscles upward, place the binder around the lower abdomen, tighten it from both sides, fasten the middle and upper/lower waist straps, and finally adjust the tightness of each part to a comfortable level.
Duration of use for a postpartum abdominal binder:
The optimal time to use an abdominal binder after vaginal delivery is usually around one week postpartum, although the exact timing can be adjusted according to individual circumstances and medical advice. It is generally recommended to use the binder during the early postpartum period and while active. Avoid wearing it continuously for prolonged periods, especially removing it half an hour before meals, one hour after meals, and before bedtime to prevent interference with blood circulation and sleep quality. Daily usage should not exceed 8 hours, and the binder should not be too tight to avoid adverse effects on the body. Additionally, a postpartum checkup should be conducted promptly at 42 days post-delivery.
