Why is tinea cruris particularly itchy at night?
Disease description:
I am 32 years old and have recently been diagnosed with tinea cruris (jock itch). It becomes especially itchy at night, to the point that I can't sleep. I would like to know why tinea cruris causes more intense itching at night.
The reasons for increased itching at night due to jock itch include:
1. **Active fungal infection**: Fungi are more active at night, leading to enhanced inflammatory reactions that stimulate the skin and intensify itching.
2. **Increased nerve sensitivity**: At night, in a quiet environment with reduced distractions, nerve sensitivity tends to be higher, making the sensation of itching more pronounced.
3. **Elevated local temperature**: During sleep at night, the temperature of certain body areas rises, creating favorable conditions for fungal growth and activity, thereby worsening itching.
4. **Other complications**: Jock itch may be accompanied by complications such as nerve dysfunction, eczema, or urticaria, which can also contribute to increased itching at night.
