Symptoms of Emphysema
Disease description:
I have had lung pain for the past two days and was diagnosed with emphysema after an examination. I would like to know what symptoms this condition typically presents with?
The main symptoms of emphysema include:
1. Shortness of breath: As the disease progresses, patients gradually develop dyspnea, particularly noticeable after physical activity, and may even experience breathlessness at rest.
2. Cough and sputum production: Patients frequently experience coughing and sputum production, which may progressively worsen. The sputum may become thick and difficult to expel.
3. Chest tightness and chest pain: Due to pulmonary inflammation causing pressure on the chest wall, patients may experience symptoms of chest tightness and chest pain.
4. Systemic symptoms: These include loss of appetite, weight loss, and fatigue, which result from emphysema affecting the functions of various organs, including the digestive system.
5. Other symptoms: These may include wheezing, signs of body hypoxia (such as cyanosis, headache, drowsiness, and confusion), fever, and spontaneous pneumothorax.
