Elevated prolactin levels may result from the combined effects of multiple factors.
1. Physiological factors, such as pregnancy and lactation in women, nighttime or resting states, as well as long-term high-protein diets and mental stress, can all potentially cause increased prolactin levels.
2. Medications are also an important factor; drugs such as anti-anxiety medications, antipsychotics, estrogens, and contraceptives may interfere with normal regulation of prolactin.
3. Pathological factors, including hypothalamic lesions, pituitary diseases (such as pituitary tumors), hypothyroidism, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), can also lead to abnormally elevated prolactin levels.
It should be noted that elevated prolactin levels may cause symptoms such as menstrual disorders, infertility, and galactorrhea. Therefore, timely medical consultation and treatment according to medical advice are recommended.
