Does the virus that causes flat warts lead to cervical cancer?
Disease description:
I heard from a friend that flat warts are mainly caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), so I would like to ask whether the virus that causes flat warts can lead to cervical cancer?
The virus that causes flat warts generally does not lead to cervical cancer. Flat warts are mainly caused by certain low-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV), such as HPV3, HPV10, HPV27, and HPV41. These typically occur on the face, back of the hands, wrists, and forearms and are commonly seen in adolescents. In contrast, cervical cancer is primarily caused by high-risk HPV infections, especially HPV16 and HPV18. These viral types are closely associated with the development of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical cancer.
Because different subtypes of HPV virus are responsible for flat warts and cervical cancer, flat warts generally do not directly lead to cervical cancer. However, since both conditions are associated with HPV infection, patients are advised to undergo regular cervical cancer screening to enable early diagnosis and treatment of cervical diseases and to prevent the occurrence of cervical cancer.
