Disease description:

My younger brother has common warts on his face. However, a flat wart is suspected to have recently developed on his scalp. How should these conditions be treated—a common wart on the face and a suspected flat wart on the scalp?

Common warts appearing on the face and suspected flat warts on the scalp are both benign skin growths caused by infection of the skin and mucous membranes by human papillomavirus (HPV). Common warts typically present as firm papules with rough surfaces, can persist for a long time, occasionally cause tenderness, and are commonly found on fingers, the back of hands, edges of feet, and may also appear on other parts of the body. In contrast, flat warts commonly occur on the face, back of hands, and forearms, presenting as flat papules with normal skin color or pinkish hue, smooth surfaces, and clear borders, and are contagious. For both conditions, timely medical consultation is recommended to confirm the diagnosis by a qualified physician and implement appropriate treatment measures, such as topical medications, physical therapy, or surgical removal, to eliminate the warts and prevent their spread.
