What causes excessive salivation?
Disease description:
Always feeling uncomfortable in the mouth, with excessive saliva production. What causes excessive saliva production?
Excessive saliva secretion can be caused by various factors, mainly divided into two categories: physiological and pathological.
1. In terms of physiological causes, eating acidic or spicy foods can stimulate the salivary glands, leading to increased saliva production. This is a normal physiological response and generally not a cause for concern.
2. Pathological causes are more complex and may involve oral diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, and neurological regulatory dysfunction. Oral conditions such as gingivitis and periodontitis can cause excessive salivation due to inflammatory stimulation of the salivary glands. Gastrointestinal diseases, such as gastritis, gastric ulcers, and reflux esophagitis, may also trigger increased saliva secretion through neural reflexes. In addition, neurological regulatory dysfunction can also lead to abnormal salivation.
