Kawasaki Disease: Symptoms and Manifestations
Disease description:
My child has been having frequent fevers recently. After taking him for an examination, the doctor diagnosed him with Kawasaki disease. I would like to ask, what are the other symptoms and manifestations of Kawasaki disease?
Kawasaki disease is an acute, self-limiting vasculitis that primarily affects children. Its main symptoms include:
1. Persistent high fever: Fever lasting more than 5 days, with body temperature reaching 39℃~40℃, unresponsive to antibiotic treatment.
2. Skin symptoms: Polymorphic rash commonly appearing on the trunk and extremities, presenting as diffuse erythema or scarlatiniform rash, without vesicles or crusting. During the recovery phase, membrane-like desquamation may occur at the fingertips and toes.
3. Ocular symptoms: Bilateral conjunctival congestion without purulent discharge.
4. Oral symptoms: Congested and cracked lips, diffuse congestion of the oral mucosa, prominent tongue papillae presenting as "strawberry tongue."
5. Extremity changes: Erythema of the palms and soles and fingertips and toes, indurative edema of the hands and feet; desquamation at fingertips and toes during the recovery phase.
