Disease description:

I have a flat wart on my body. After visiting the hospital for examination, the doctor told me it's an HPV virus infection. I would like to know whether flat warts are necessarily caused by genital HPV?

Flat warts are not necessarily associated with gynecological HPV infection. Flat warts are a common viral skin disease caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), primarily involving subtypes such as HPV 3, 10, and 28, although infections with HPV 6 and 18 may also occur. These viruses are mainly transmitted through skin contact, such as direct contact with the skin of an infected individual or using personal items of an infected person. In contrast, gynecological HPV infection mainly involves HPV types associated with the genital tract, such as HPV 48 and 51, which are closely linked to gynecological conditions like cervical cancer. There are differences between flat warts and gynecological HPV infections in terms of viral types and sites of infection, and the two should not be confused.
