How early can twins be detected?
Disease description:
I'm one month pregnant and really want to know how many fetuses I'm carrying. It feels strange. Doctor, how early can twins be detected?

Typically, around six weeks after conception, an ultrasound examination can initially determine whether a pregnancy involves twins. At this stage, the doctor may observe two or more distinct embryonic sacs, indicating a multiple pregnancy. As the pregnancy progresses, especially during the first routine prenatal examination (NT scan) between weeks 8 and 12, the doctor can more clearly confirm the type of twin pregnancy, such as monozygotic twins (single egg) or dizygotic twins (two eggs). If twins are suspected but the ultrasound findings are inconclusive, a follow-up examination at a later date may be necessary to obtain a definitive diagnosis. Throughout this process, the physician will closely monitor the mother's health and provide appropriate prenatal care recommendations as needed.
