Right-sided kidney pain may include but is not limited to the following causes: 1. Kidney stones: Stones moving through the urinary tract may irritate the renal pelvis or ureter, causing severe pain that often radiates to the back or lower abdomen. 2. Kidney infection (pyelonephritis): Bacterial infection of the kidney can cause flank pain, fever, and frequent urination. The pain typically occurs on both sides of the spine. 3. Kidney dysfunction: Conditions such as acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease may lead to discomfort in the kidney area. 4. Kidney cysts or tumors: Benign cysts or kidney tumors may cause pain, especially when they enlarge or press on surrounding tissues. 5. Muscle strain or soft tissue injury: Non-kidney-related conditions, such as injury to the back muscles or soft tissues, can also cause pain in the right kidney area. 6. Urinary tract obstruction: Any factor that blocks the flow of urine, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia or tumors, may cause kidney area pain.
