Disease description:

My nephew is now four months old. He seems somewhat sluggish in daily life and doesn't display much facial expression. I'm worried that the child might have low intelligence. I'd like to ask, what are the typical signs indicating that a baby may have intellectual disabilities?

Infantile intellectual developmental delay, also known as intellectual disability or cognitive developmental disorder, may present with the following signs: 1. Inappropriate smiling, mouth opening, tongue protrusion, drooling, teeth grinding, finger sucking, and frequent unconscious expressions, movements, or sudden screaming and crying. 2. Dull eyes, inability to consciously observe objects, failure to shift gaze with changes in objects, and poor concentration and persistence of attention. 3. Poor responsiveness to surrounding objects, with emotions and behaviors not changing according to external stimuli. 4. Significant delay in language development compared to peers, without hearing or visual impairments. 5. Motor dysfunction, including muscle spasms, paralysis, hypotonia, excessive joint flexion and extension, clumsiness, and abnormal behaviors. 6. Learning difficulties, poor academic performance, or an inability to learn altogether.
