Disease description:

My girlfriend was recently diagnosed with a breast fibroadenoma during a checkup, but she hasn't experienced any discomfort. I would like to ask whether this condition can resolve on its own.

Fibroadenoma is a common benign breast tumor, primarily formed by excessive proliferation of fibrous and glandular tissues within the breast. Breast fibroadenomas do not typically resolve spontaneously, meaning they do not disappear on their own. Most of these lumps remain stable in size, although some may gradually increase in size. Although fibroadenomas do not require immediate treatment, regular monitoring is important to ensure that the lump does not change or cause other symptoms. If a fibroadenoma causes discomfort, grows rapidly, or causes psychological distress, a doctor may recommend surgical removal. Additionally, for women of childbearing age planning to become pregnant, treatment might be considered prior to pregnancy, as hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause fibroadenomas to grow. Regular breast self-examinations and professional breast exams are key to early detection and management of breast issues.
