Diazepam is a commonly used sedative, hypnotic, and anti-anxiety medication, primarily indicated for the following groups: 1. Patients with insomnia: Diazepam has sedative and hypnotic effects that can help patients fall asleep more quickly and improve sleep quality. 2. Patients with psychiatric disorders: Such as schizophrenia and anxiety disorders; the sedative effect of diazepam can help alleviate symptoms of these conditions. 3. Patients with epilepsy and seizures: Diazepam can be used in the treatment of epilepsy and seizures by inhibiting abnormal firing of excitatory neurons in the brain to control the condition. 4. Individuals experiencing alcohol withdrawal syndrome: Diazepam can help alleviate withdrawal symptoms, including anxiety, tremors, and seizures, in individuals undergoing alcohol withdrawal. Diazepam is not suitable for everyone. Pregnant women, nursing mothers, children, the elderly, and individuals with specific liver diseases, respiratory problems, glaucoma, or a history of severe depression should use diazepam cautiously or avoid its use. Additionally, long-term use of diazepam may lead to dependence and tolerance; therefore, it is recommended to use this medication only under the guidance of a physician.
