Early symptoms of brain tumors in children may not be obvious, but parents and physicians should be aware of the following signs:

1. Headache: This is one of the most common symptoms, particularly noticeable upon waking in the morning, and may be accompanied by nausea or vomiting.

2. Vision problems: Including bulging eyes, double vision, or blurred vision, which may result from the tumor pressing on the optic nerves.

3. Balance and coordination difficulties: If a brain tumor is located in the cerebellar hemisphere and compresses blood vessels, the child may show unsteady walking, frequent falling, or regression in motor skills.

4. Cognitive and behavioral changes: Such as memory loss, difficulty concentrating, mood swings, or personality changes.

5. Developmental delays: In infants, this may manifest as abnormally increased head circumference or delays in reaching developmental milestones.

6. Sleep disturbances: Including excessive daytime sleepiness or disrupted nighttime sleep.

7. Increased intracranial pressure: This is also one of the most common symptoms. The tumor may press on surrounding brain tissues and blood vessels, causing edema and consequently elevated intracranial pressure. Symptoms may include vomiting (present in approximately 70–90% of affected children), nausea, dizziness, and headache. Vomiting is often projectile and more common in the morning or after breakfast.

If a child exhibits any of the above symptoms, especially if these symptoms persist or progressively worsen, prompt medical attention is advised.
