What causes sudden palpitations in young people?
Hello doctor, I have always been in good health, but yesterday I suddenly experienced palpitations. May I ask what could cause sudden palpitations in a young person?

Palpitations in young people can be caused by multiple factors. Tension, anxiety, or excessive stress can easily lead to sympathetic nerve excitement, which in turn causes increased heart rate and palpitations. Lack of regular physical activity may result in gradual decline in cardiopulmonary function, while excessive intake of stimulants such as caffeine and sugar can also trigger palpitations.
In addition, excessive fatigue, chronic sleep deprivation, and large consumption of caffeine may similarly stimulate the heart and cause a sensation of palpitations. Palpitations might also indicate underlying medical conditions, including tachycardia caused by hyperthyroidism, rhythm disturbances due to arrhythmia, reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood resulting from anemia, and increased heart rate as a response to energy deficiency in hypoglycemia.
It is recommended to maintain a regular daily routine, avoid prolonged periods of excessive fatigue, and follow a balanced and healthy diet. If palpitations occur frequently or are accompanied by other discomforts, timely medical consultation is advised.
