Disease description:

I just started experiencing some heart discomfort, so I didn't go for a checkup. Now I've found out it's premature beats (arrhythmia). May I ask, how should it be treated?

The treatment for premature heartbeats should be determined according to their type (atrial or ventricular), frequency, and whether they are accompanied by underlying heart disease.

For asymptomatic or occasional premature beats, special treatment is usually unnecessary. Lifestyle modifications, such as reducing intake of caffeine and alcohol, quitting smoking, maintaining an optimistic attitude, and avoiding emotional fluctuations, may help reduce the occurrence of premature beats.

Depending on the type and frequency of the premature beats, appropriate antiarrhythmic drugs may be selected, such as beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol succinate sustained-release tablets) and non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (e.g., diltiazem hydrochloride tablets). Traditional Chinese medicines, such as Wenxin Granules and Shensong Yangxin Capsules, can also effectively reduce premature beats. All medications should be taken under the guidance of a qualified physician.

For frequent premature beats, radiofrequency ablation may be considered to improve symptoms and enhance quality of life. Additionally, if there is underlying heart disease, such as coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathy, treatment options should be tailored to the individual patient's condition and follow the guidance of a specialist physician.
