Disease description:

Recently, routine urinalysis showed high uric acid levels, and I can't eat many things now for fear of triggering the condition. May I ask, is soy milk a high-purine food?

Soybean milk is not a high-purine food. High-purine foods refer to those containing 150-2500 milligrams of purines per 100 grams, such as animal offal, legumes, lamb, and beef.

The yellow soybeans used to make soybean milk do contain relatively high levels of purines. However, during the production process, a large amount of water is added, causing most of the purines to dissolve in the water. Therefore, the purine content is significantly reduced after processing, resulting in a final product with a relatively low purine content. The purine content of 100 grams of cooked soybean milk is approximately 29-30 milligrams, which is clearly below the threshold for high-purine foods. For individuals with gout or hyperuricemia, moderate consumption of soybean milk is generally safe and does not significantly increase blood uric acid levels.

If you are experiencing an acute gout attack, it is recommended to temporarily avoid all purine-containing foods, including soybean milk, to prevent worsening of the condition. If your condition is stable and not in an active phase of the disease, moderate consumption of soybean milk can help supplement high-quality protein and various essential nutrients.
