Pneumonia in children is a common respiratory tract infection, primarily caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi.

The main symptoms typically include coughing, fever, and difficulty breathing. Affected children may experience persistent coughing, which may initially be dry and later accompanied by phlegm as the disease progresses.

Fever is a common systemic symptom of pneumonia, with body temperature possibly remaining elevated, requiring close monitoring. Difficulty breathing directly reflects the severity of pneumonia; children may exhibit rapid breathing, nasal flaring, and other signs. Infants with pneumonia may also present severe symptoms such as apnea and cyanosis (bluish discoloration of the skin and lips). Coughing is a relatively typical symptom of pediatric pneumonia, with the possibility of expectorating mucus or pus-filled phlegm. Additionally, persistent high fever is another common characteristic of childhood pneumonia. Some affected children may also experience accompanying symptoms such as poor appetite, lethargy, chest pain, or abdominal pain.

If there is any concern, timely medical consultation is recommended. Treatment typically includes antibiotics, supportive care, and oxygen therapy when necessary. Preventive measures include vaccination, maintaining good hygiene practices, and enhancing immunity.
