Ganglion cyst is a cystic mass that occurs in the tendon sheath of joints, commonly found on the back of the wrist and foot. Its origin lies in the degeneration of connective tissues within joint capsules, ligaments, and tendon sheaths, after which the formed cyst fills with thick, sticky fluid that is colorless and transparent or slightly orange or pale yellow. This type of cyst usually is unilocular, firm in texture, and feels like a ping-pong ball when touched.

Young and middle-aged women are more prone to developing ganglion cysts, and the disease typically progresses slowly. In the early stages, symptoms may be limited to mild soreness and often are overlooked. However, as the cyst gradually enlarges, problems become more apparent, causing noticeable swelling and increased pain. More seriously, when the cyst reaches a certain size, it may adversely affect joint function, leading to restricted movement.

Regarding treatment options, cyst fluid can be removed via needle aspiration; compression bandaging also can be applied to assist in recovery. Physical therapy and medication may provide some therapeutic benefit. Patients with more severe conditions might require surgical removal. It is recommended to visit a qualified hospital and undergo procedures under the guidance of a qualified physician.
