Orlistat is a medication used for the treatment of obesity, and its primary mechanism of action is inhibiting lipase activity to reduce fat absorption from food. Thirst experienced after taking orlistat may be caused by the following factors:

1. Orlistat achieves weight loss by inhibiting fat absorption. This mechanism may also affect the body's absorption and utilization of water, resulting in a sensation of thirst.

2. By altering fat digestion and absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, orlistat may cause slight imbalances in the body's water and electrolyte levels, thereby triggering thirst. Additionally, gastrointestinal side effects caused by the medication, such as nausea and diarrhea, may indirectly lead to dehydration and subsequent thirst.

Although orlistat can assist in weight loss, long-term use may cause harm to the body. Patients are advised to maintain adequate water intake and closely monitor other bodily reactions. If symptoms are severe or persist, prompt medical attention should be sought.
