Loose or unformed stools accompanied by pus and blood may involve the following possible causes:

1. Inflammatory bowel disease: Such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, these conditions can cause damage to the intestinal mucosa, leading to bloody stools and changes in bowel habits.

2. Intestinal infections: For example, bacterial dysentery caused by infection with Shigella species. The toxins and endotoxins produced can lead to mucosal necrosis, sloughing, and bleeding, resulting in stools containing pus and blood. Amoebic dysentery and viral enteritis can also cause inflammatory reactions in the intestine, leading to mucosal damage and bleeding.

3. Anorectal diseases: Conditions such as hemorrhoids or anal fissures may also cause bleeding, although the blood is typically bright red and not mixed with the stool.

4. Tumorous conditions: Including polyps, adenomas, and colorectal cancer, these should not be overlooked as potential causes, especially in older patients.

5. Other factors: In elderly individuals, weakened gastrointestinal function may lead to loose or unformed stools. According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, spleen deficiency, excessive dampness, and gastrointestinal dysfunction may also contribute to unformed stools.

If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical consultation is recommended.
