Dr. Cao Zhiqiang

Pain during urination, known as dysuria, is mainly caused by the following factors:

1. Urinary tract infection: This is one of the most common causes, including conditions such as cystitis and pyelonephritis. Bacterial infection leads to inflammation of the urethra, bladder, or kidneys, causing a burning sensation during urination.

2. Urinary system stones: Bladder or urethral stones may irritate the urethral or bladder mucosa during movement, causing pain. If the stone is lodged in the ureter, it may also cause symptoms such as back pain, nausea, and vomiting.

3. Urethral injury: The urethra may be injured during vigorous physical activity or sexual intercourse, leading to pain during urination. In cases of severe injury, blood may drip from the urethral opening.

4. Prostate problems: Male patients may experience discomfort during urination due to prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia.

5. Sexually transmitted diseases: Conditions such as gonorrhea and non-gonococcal urethritis can also cause painful urination.

6. Other factors: Highly concentrated urine or certain medications may also cause discomfort during urination.

If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical attention is recommended.
