Causes of dark yellow urine include:

1. Dehydration: When the body lacks water, the concentration of waste products in urine increases, causing the urine color to darken. In this case, the urine may not only appear dark yellow but also have a strong odor.

2. Diet: Consumption of foods such as carrots, beets, and B vitamins can cause urine to become more yellow. Additionally, excessive intake of foods or beverages containing pigments may also affect urine color.

3. Medications: Certain drugs, including rifampin, sulfonamides, and some chemotherapy medications, can darken urine, sometimes turning it orange-yellow.

4. Medical conditions: Liver diseases, such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and biliary tract obstruction, can cause elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood, resulting in darker urine that may appear like strong tea or orange-yellow. Kidney diseases, such as glomerulonephritis or kidney stones, can also sometimes cause changes in urine color, but are usually accompanied by other symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, or hematuria.

If urine remains consistently yellow and is accompanied by other uncomfortable symptoms, prompt medical attention is recommended.
