Disease description:

Recently, I have been experiencing discomfort in the heart and went to the hospital for an angiogram, which revealed a 20% coronary artery stenosis. I would like to know whether a 20% coronary artery stenosis is reversible.

Coronary artery stenosis refers to the narrowing of the coronary artery's inner diameter due to plaque deposition, which is usually a result of atherosclerosis. In most cases, the condition can gradually improve through standardized treatment and lifestyle modifications, although complete reversal to a normal state is not possible. The main approaches for treating coronary artery stenosis include:

1. Lifestyle modifications: These involve quitting smoking, controlling blood pressure, blood glucose, and lipid levels, increasing physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, and following a heart-healthy diet. Eat more green vegetables and consume adequate amounts of high-quality protein.

2. Medication therapy: Intensive statin therapy is recommended, such as atorvastatin or rosuvastatin, to stabilize plaques and reduce the degree of stenosis. For older patients or those with significantly elevated lipid levels, antiplatelet drugs such as aspirin may be added.

If the condition worsens further, interventional treatments such as angioplasty or stent placement may need to be considered.
