"Empty feeling in the chest" is a non-professional term commonly used to describe discomfort in the center of the chest or upper abdomen. This sensation may be caused by various factors and does not necessarily indicate a serious illness.

A feeling of emptiness in the chest area may be closely related to myocardial ischemia, which is usually caused by narrowing of the coronary arteries, leading to insufficient blood supply to the heart muscle. In such cases, patients may experience chest pain, a feeling of pressure, and accompanying symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest tightness, and palpitations. To confirm the diagnosis, doctors may recommend medical tests such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) or echocardiography.

This chest discomfort may also be related to the digestive system, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastritis, or indigestion. GERD and gastritis can cause abnormal reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus, resulting in a burning sensation or a feeling of emptiness. Indigestion may occur when food remains in the stomach for too long, causing discomfort.

If symptoms persist or worsen, prompt medical attention is recommended.
