Can people with arrhythmia live a long life?
I went to the physical examination center today and had an electrocardiogram (ECG). The doctor said I have slight arrhythmia. Can people with arrhythmia live a long life?
Arrhythmia, medically termed as cardiac arrhythmia, refers to an abnormal heart rhythm. Whether arrhythmia affects longevity depends on the specific circumstances:
1. Physiological and pathological factors: Arrhythmia may be caused by physiological factors (such as long-term excessive alcohol consumption, drinking strong tea or coffee, etc.). In such cases, it generally does not cause serious harm to the body, and a long life is usually possible. If arrhythmia is caused by pathological factors (such as myocarditis, pericarditis, etc.), it may lead to damage of myocardial cells, affect normal heart function, and subsequently impact life expectancy.
2. Severity and timely treatment: Severe arrhythmia can lead to serious complications such as heart failure and myocardial infarction, significantly shortening the patient's lifespan. Therefore, patients with arrhythmia need regular cardiac health check-ups, treatment following medical advice, control of associated risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, etc., and maintaining a healthy lifestyle including balanced diet, appropriate exercise, smoking cessation, alcohol limitation, and weight control.
