Nighttime blood pressure elevation, also known as nocturnal hypertension or a non-dipping blood pressure pattern, refers to a phenomenon where a patient's blood pressure does not decrease by the usual 10%–20% during nighttime sleep, but instead rises. This condition may be related to multiple factors:

1. Staying up late, work-related stress, and poor sleep quality may cause the body to remain in a state of tension for prolonged periods, leading to elevated nighttime blood pressure.

2. Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome is also a common cause of nighttime blood pressure elevation. Hypoxia caused by apnea activates the sympathetic nervous system, resulting in increased blood pressure.

3. Lifestyle habits: Consuming excessive salt, caffeine, or alcohol in the evening, as well as a lack of physical activity, may contribute to elevated nighttime blood pressure.

4. Medication effects: Certain medications, such as hormonal drugs and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), may interfere with the normal rhythm of blood pressure.

5. Medical conditions: Kidney disease, endocrine disorders (such as hyperthyroidism), and cardiovascular diseases may also lead to abnormal nighttime blood pressure.

If you have concerns, it is recommended to seek medical advice promptly.
